After stints at Air India and Railways, Ashwani Lohani, the “turnaround specialist” has now joined infra major GMR Group as CEO of it services business. This move is expected to be a big boost for the company as GMR which is already the India’s biggest private sector airport developer, is now showing interest in private train project, station redevelopment and dedicated freight corridors which will help them expand their portfolio in railways sector.
Lohani who is a 1980-batch IRSME (Indian Railway Service Mechanical Engineering) officer hailing from Madhya Pradesh, took the charge of Air India in August 2015 for the first time and was termed as the turnaround man of the national carrier. He then headed the Indian railways (in 2017) for over an year. In February 2019, he again took charge of Air India for a one-year term. After leaving Air India, he was appointed as the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC).
