1.    Tell us something about CAPTAIN’S ESCAPADES.

CAPTAIN’S ESCAPADES is an experiential adventure travel company that organises self-drive / riding experiences across India.

It was founded purely out of the passion for travel and years of involvement with motorsports, covering the length and breadth of our country in the process. The team comprises of highly qualified and experienced professionals who are actively involved in travel, motorsports (as stewards and participants) and organising experiences for leading automobile companies. Safety, security and responsible travel come naturally to us and are as much a focus area as comfort and experience are.

You could either join our fixed groups or we can tailor make the experience for you for the choice of destination that you may have.

2. What are your views on the increasing demand for adventure tourism in India? How important is it for the overall development of India as a preferred adventure destination?

I feel that adventure tourism in India is being driven by a young working population and ease of travel coupled with the availability of ever increasing good and clean stay options.

We have diverse landscapes like no other country. We also have varied cultures — this makes travel in our country quite a wholesome package. Add a little bit of challenge to it, and we have a complete holiday for the adventure seeker. While it is not an untapped territory it still has a lot of scopes. The security aspect is what sometimes keeps the travellers away. If we are able to address that, I think adventure travel will attract more travellers than the current visitors.

3. Keeping in mind, the increasing popularity of adventure tourism, what is the USP of CAPTAIN’S ESCAPADES?

Safe, responsible and secure travel is the USP of Captain’s Escapades. We do limited expeditions and that is owing to the fact that we give personal attention to each one of them. While I travel with each experience to ensure quality and standardisation across, I also ensure a well-experienced support staff including a 24X7 doctor with each one.

4. What all iconic experiences does CAPTAIN’S ESCAPADES offer? Please share the details.

We offer three rides / drives at present —

  • DELHI - MANALI - LEH: This 12-day expedition, also known as the gateway to the Himalayas, takes us through some of the most breathtaking views and near virgin territory. In this 900 Kms journey, we cross 11 mountain passes and driving on the highest motorable road in the world. The route is tough, treacherous and not for the faint hearted. However, the preparedness and our safety measures make up for it. The expedition starts from Manali and the riders fly out of Leh on day 12.  We customise this for the duration for sponsored groups.

  • BAGDOGRA (West Bengal, India) - BHUTAN: This is a ride of the lifetime taking us to the land of zero carbon footprints, the purest of air and the most pristine surroundings. The highest altitude of this ride is 3000 pts. This 500 Kms journey is a photographer’s paradise with the most beautiful and picturesque valleys and some of the world's oldest monasteries. This is a nine-day tour.

  • THE CULTURAL COLOURS (THAR DESERT) - In this tour, we practically do the length and breadth of the desert state of Rajasthan. Just a few hours away from Delhi, the first stop is Jaipur which is known for its heritage hotels and many historical sites. We do the Bikaner - Jaisalmer - Pushkar - Jaipur loop in the next five days. The night stays are in the most memorable 5 Star properties almost in the middle of nowhere with lively evenings full of cultural events. This is a six-day trip.

5. Any future plans to add more adventure-filled experiences to the portfolio?

We are planning to add three more rides for 2017. First one is the loop of the famous Spiti Valley (Jun - Oct). This trip will start from Shimla and move through some parts of the old Hindustan-Tibet Road and reach Kaza and culminate in Manali. Apart from visiting the famous fort-monastery of Dhankhar, built on a cliff face, the riders will also get to visit Komic, the highest motorable village in the world at 15,000 feet. This will be a six-day trip.

The second one will be the Safari Ride covering the five National Parks of India in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This seven day ride will cover the national parks of Pench, Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Panna.

The third will be taking our travellers to some historical and prehistoric world heritage sites of India including Bhimbethka and Sanchi.
