Built on close to 3 acres in the prime residential district of Kolkata, the Taj Bengal forever changed the landscape of the city when it opened on 10th October, 1989. It redefined the bar for 5 star luxury hotels in the city and continues till today to lead the industry in Kolkata. With 229 rooms and large banquets and iconic restaurants, the hotel has been a part of the city’s history in these 25 years.
To mark 25 years, the hotel has released a special private label red wine with wine maker Fratelli and a special exclusive label champagne with Drappier, and guests staying on October 10th will receive a special celebratory cupcake. Several 25th anniversary promotions will be held exclusively for guests in the coming weeks.

When asked about his favorite Taj property, Ratan Tata, Chairman, Emeritus of Tata Sons - the holding company of the Tata group had said, “I’m not saying this hypocritically but for many years my favourite Taj hotel was the Taj Bengal.”
Taj Bengal is decorated richly with Heritage Art and Sculpture, capturing the essence of Bengal through its Iconic Terracotta Musician statues in the atrium lobby, and the terracotta panels on the floors. The hotel features an impressive array of specialist cuisine restaurants – five of them – Oriental, Indian, Eastern Mediterranean and an Italian accented Coffee Shop and a specialist European Members Only Dining Room at the Chambers.
