Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre (NHCC) and Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), renowned for their dedication to sustainable hospitality, have made a remarkable stride in environmental stewardship by installing a state-of-the-art solar power system. With 1,818 solar panels spread across 48,904 square feet, this cutting-edge installation has a capacity of 1000 KWp, generating an impressive 4,000 units of electricity daily and 1,460,000 units annually—covering 50% of HICC’s energy requirements.
By harnessing renewable energy, this initiative will reduce CO2 emissions by 1,022 tons each year. The INR 2.6 crore investment in the sustainable energy system is set to save INR 1.17 crore annually, with a remarkable return on investment (ROI) of just 2.22 years. This achievement aligns with the property’s long-term vision of incorporating eco-friendly solutions into its operations, reinforcing its position as a pioneer in responsible hospitality.

Part of wider sustainability framework
The solar panel installation is part of a wider sustainability framework that Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre and HICC have been diligently developing. With 287 rooms and a sprawling 65,000 sq. ft. pillar-less convention centre, the property stands as a leader in sustainable hospitality, driven by its commitment to green practices.
“The installation of our solar power system is not merely about adopting renewable energy; it signifies a deeper commitment to pioneering a greener future for our industry, our city, our country, and our planet,” said Rubin Cherian, General Manager, Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC. “Sustainability is at the core of everything we do, reflecting Accor’s global ethos of responsible hospitality. By embracing innovative solutions, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also setting a benchmark for sustainable operations in the hospitality sector,” he further added.
NHCC, first hotel in the region to adopt atmospheric water generation technology
NHCC is the first hotel in the region to adopt atmospheric water generation technology in partnership with O by Aria Life Water, which extracts and remineralises water from the air, thus reducing reliance on groundwater. Additionally, a dual solar power and water heating system has been implemented, allowing the property to generate electricity while heating 4,000 litres of water daily, resulting in substantial energy conservation. Food waste management is another area where NHCC has made considerable progress, with the use of Orbisk technology to monitor and optimise food consumption, thereby reducing overall waste.
In further recognition of its commitment to sustainable hospitality, NHCC & HICC have earned the esteemed Green Key Certification, an internationally recognised eco-label. By reducing their reliance on conventional energy sources, NHCC & HICC aim to make a significant contribution to India’s renewable energy movement while upholding the highest standards of guest experience.
