Heritage Aviation is set to revolutionise travel in Uttarakhand with the launch of a new helicopter service on March 11, 2025. The service, operated under the central government’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, will connect major cities in the state, including Dehradun, Nainital, Bageshwar, and Haldwani. The primary objective is to bridge the gap between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions, offering travellers a faster, more convenient, and seamless travel experience.
With the introduction of this service, passengers will be able to avoid the long, tiring road journeys that are common in the hilly terrain. For example, a road trip from Dehradun to Nainital typically takes 6 to 7 hours, while the helicopter service will complete the journey in just 50 minutes. Similarly, other routes will also significantly reduce travel times, offering substantial time savings.

The new service will operate with 7-seater helicopters, ensuring efficient transportation for passengers, while drastically reducing travel times. Not only will this benefit travellers by making journeys through hilly regions more accessible, but it will also support tourism and local residents, as well as business travellers.

The service will operate two flights daily on each route. Heritage Aviation, the only private helicopter company in India offering daily helicopter services under the UDAN scheme, already operates flights from Haldwani to Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Munsiyari. Looking ahead, the company plans to extend its network with daily flights from Dehradun to Tehri, Srinagar, and Gauchar, with the ultimate goal of connecting all major and minor towns in Uttarakhand under the UDAN scheme.
This new initiative will be particularly beneficial not only for local residents but also for tourists, providing a significant boost to Uttarakhand’s tourism sector. It will also prove useful in emergency situations, offering quicker access to hard-to-reach areas.
