Senior IAS officer Suman Billa has been appointed as the new Director General (Tourism) in the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, marking a major bureaucratic reshuffle at the Additional Secretary level.
Currently working as the Ministry of Tourism’s Additional Secretary, Billa brings a wealth of experience to the position. Notably, he had earlier served as Joint Secretary in the same ministry from 2014 to 2019, where he played a pivotal role in shaping India’s tourism policies and campaigns.
Following his tenure in the ministry, Billa was appointed as Director of Technical Cooperation and Silk Road Development at the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), enhancing India’s global presence in the tourism sector and contributing to sustainable tourism development worldwide.
The reshuffle, announced by the Centre, involved the appointment of 25 officers as Additional Secretaries and the in-situ elevation of 15 officers to the rank and pay of Additional Secretary across various ministries and departments, marking a major administrative overhaul.
